ICHR seminar explores Jagannath culture in North East

Imphal, August 26 2026: A two-day ICHR-sponsored national seminar on "The Historical Exploration of Shree Jagannath Culture in the North East with Special Reference to Manipur" was held on August 25 and 26 at Classic Grande, Imphal and Radha Madhav Adarsh Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya, Nambol.

The seminar brought together scholars, teachers, researchers and students from different parts of the country to examine the historical, religious, literary and Cultural dimensions of Jagannath tradition in the North East, with special focus on Manipur.

The inaugural session was attended by former Union Minister of Education and External Affairs Dr RK Ranjan as chief guest.

Dr P Sanajaoba Singh, president of the Governing Body of Radha Madhav Adarsh Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya, chaired the session.

Prof Harihar Panda of ICHR, New Delhi delivered the key address.

Prof Harekrishna Sathapathy, former Vice-Chancellor of National Sanskrit University, Tirupati and Sahitya Akademi awardee, attended as Saraswati Atithi.

Prof Vijay Dadhich of Central Sanskrit University, New Delhi was present as special invitee.

Prof Wahengbam Chandbabu Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Dhanamanjuri University, Prof Irom Gambhir Singh of Manipur University and Prof Satyanarayan Acharya, Vice-Chancellor of Odia University, attended as guests of honour.

Welcoming the gathering, Prof Buddheswar Sarangi, Principal of Radha Madhav Adarsh Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya, highlighted the significance of the seminar.

The plenary session was addressed by Prof Harekrishna Sathapathy.

Subsequent technical sessions examined themes including Jagannath tradition in the 21 st century, Jagannath culture as a bridge of regional integration, and Jagannath tradition in art, literature and architecture.

The seminar concluded with a closing ceremony where Prof Sarada Samantaray, former Professor of Sanskrit at SCS College, Puri, attended as chief guest and Prof Irom Gambhir Singh as guest of honour.

The programme concluded with Shanti Mantra and National Anthem.
