CM briefs union ministers on crisis, infra projects

Chief minister N Biren held a series of high-level meetings with key Union Ministers in New Delhi to address various pressing issues in the state.
The discussions were mainly centred on the current crisis plaguing the state since May 2023, infrastructure projects including national highways, and the advancement of railway connectivity.
In his meeting with Defence minister Rajnath Singh at Parliament House, the CM focused on the ongoing violence in the state and shared his deep concerns over the situation while seeking the Centre's assistance in restoring normalcy.
Rajnath reportedly reassured the CM that he is closely monitoring the situation and working tirelessly to resolve the issue, with necessary measures being taken to maintain law and order.
Additionally, the CM requested the Defence Minister to expedite the process for handing over the Koirengei Air Field land, currently under the control of the Indian Air Force, to the state government.
This meeting was part of an ongoing series of discussions aimed at finding a solution to the crisis in Manipur.
Following this, CM Biren met with Union Transport minister Nitin Gadkari to review the progress of ongoing National Highway projects in the state.
The discussions aimed at addressing challenges and expedite completion of infrastructure projects, which are expected to enhance connectivity and boost economic development in the state.
Gadkari emphasised the importance of these highways, noting that they will play a vital role in promoting economic growth and improving connectivity in Manipur.
The discussion also included future plans and strategies to ensure timely completion and efficient execution of the highway projects.
With a total road length of 316 kilometres and a construction value of approximately Rs 3000 crore, these projects are anticipated to bring significant benefits to the people of the state, including better connectivity, convenience, and economic growth.
The chief minister also met with Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting,, Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw.
The key points discussed during the meeting included completion of the railway works undergoing on Khoupum side in Noney district, and finalising the last leg of the Jiribam-Imphal railway line to operationalise train services from Imphal at the earliest.
The CM expressed his gratitude to the Union Minister for the first consignment of food grains transported by train to Khongsang Railway Station in Noney district recently.
Completion of the Jiribam-Imphal railway line is expected to connect Manipur to the rest of India by rail, boosting economic growth and improving the quality of life for its citizens.
Through these meetings, Biren underscored the critical need for collaboration and support from the Central government to address the multifaceted challenges facing the state, from restoring peace to enhancing infrastructure and connectivity.
