'Thakhaisida Manipuri Theatre' show from Sep 30

Imphal, September 25 2026: The Art and Culture Department, Government of Manipur will organise 'Thakhaisida Manipuri Theatre" at Chandrakriti Auditorium, Palace Compound from September 30, 2026 to May 15, 2027, said Secretary Naorem Praveen.

He was addressing a press meet at the Directorate of Art & Culture Conference Hall, Palace Compound today.

Praveen said the theatre festival marks 101 years of the first Manipuri language play 'Nara Singh Awangamba' staged on September 30, 1925 .

A committee headed by former Commissioner Art & Culture M Joy as Chairman has been formed for the show.

Twenty-five theatre groups will take part, with shows for two weeks per month to promote Manipuri theatre, he said.

No hall charge will be taken from theatre groups and Rs 50,000 assistance will be provided considering financial difficulties, he added.
