Imphal, May 25 2025: The Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) Manipur has condemned in the strongest terms the brutal crackdown on democratic protesters by security forces today.

A press release issued by FOCS has warned that such brutal crackdown on women protesters can spark widespread civil unrest.

For decades, womenfolk have been fighting in the forefront against anti-people policies of successive Governments including President's Rule administrations and resulting challenges to the State's integrity, demography and violation of human rights.

Many women who were protesting against the Gwaltabi incident were injured in a brutal crackdown by RAF and other security forces today, it said.

It will be a misplaced notion if the PR administration is thinking that the people's democratic movements can be suppressed by brute forces, FOCS said.

The issue at hand can be resolved when the Governor, as the head of the State, takes up action against security personnel and officials involved in the Gwaltabi incident, it said.

It would be wise for the PR administration to give up the idea of suppressing people's movements with brute force, it added.
