Imphal, May 24 2024:
Reacting to news report published in this daily on May 24, under the headline "CFs Trained KNA (B) in Bomb Making; NSCN," Assam Rifles has issued a clarification refuting the claims made by the Government of the People's Republic of Nagaland (GPRN)/NSCN.
The news report cited a press release of GPRN in which the Naga rebel outfit alleged that the Assam Rifles (AR) and the para-regiment are colluding with Kuki militant groups against the NSCN.
The press release also accused Central security forces of facilitating free movement of Kuki militants and using drones to drop bombs in Myanmar.
In a statement, PRO IGAR (South) recounted that Assam Rifles had previously addressed these allegations in a rebuttal published on May 20, in the Ukhrul Times and other media outlets while asserting that these claims are baseless and unfounded.
Assam Rifles emphasised the importance of accurate reporting by media houses to prevent sensationalism, which could worsen the already delicate situation.
Media organisations are urged to verify their contents thoroughly before publication to ensure that misinformation does not exacerbate tensions in the region.
Accurate and responsible journalism is essential in maintaining peace and stability, the release added.
