135th death anniversary of Pukhramba Tangko observed

The 135th death anniversary of Pukhramba Tangko was observed today at Kangmong Langoljam Mayai Leikai Tourak Lampak.
According to a press release issued by M Joykumar Luwang, secretary, Pukhramba Tangko Memorial Trust, the ceremony was attended by Thokchom Sundaram Singh, president of the Trust; village elder and writer Sinamacha Heramani Khuman and author Maisnam Kesho Luwang as the presidium members.
The dignitaries led the gathering in offering floral tributes before the memorial site of Pukhramba Tangko.
Addressing the gathering, M Joykumar said that the courageous Manipuri soldier laid down his life on March 24, 1891 while fighting against the British who had come to arrest Bir Tikendrajit.
He said a request will be made to construct a Pukhramba Tangko monument at Kangmong Langoljam Mayai Leikai Tourak Community Hall.
Meira paibi leaders from nine localities of Kangmong village presented a variety of offerings on the occasion.
