Murder suspects declared wanted, one held

Imphal, February 24 2025:
Hours after declaring two suspects wanted for the murder of 19-year-old Laishram Malemnganba Meetei, at Moirang Kampu Awang, Leikai in Imphal East district, police have arrested one of the two suspects on Monday.
According to a press release of police control room, the arrest was made following information provided by a vigilant citizen, leading to the capture of Thangjam Thoungamba Meitei (26) son of Th Sunil of Tiger Camp, Sagolmang, Imphal East.
Police said that the suspect is affiliated with the proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF) .

The incident, which took place on February 10 around 12:30 pm, involved four assailants gunning down Malemnganba in broad daylight while he was at Moirang Kampu Awang Leikai.
His cousin, who was with him at the time, also faced an attempted murder but survived the attack.
The attackers came in a Maruti Swift car.
During the investigation, police recovered a mobile phone believed to have been used by the perpetrators.
The vehicle involved was later found abandoned along an IVR connecting Waiton and Wairi in Imphal East on February 18 .
Police identified the second suspect as Huiningshumbam Poireinganba alias Amitlang (31) son of H Ibohanbi of Lamboikhul Makha Leikai, Sagolmang, also affiliated with UNLF .
A notification issued by Imphal East SP earlier in the day appealed for public assistance in locating the absconders.
Authorities also announced a reward for anyone providing information about the fugitives, with details to be shared via the SP Control Room at 7085368633 .
While Thoungamba Meitei has now been apprehended, Poireinganba remains at large.
Authorities have warned that any person found providing shelter or assistance to the remaining suspect will face strict legal action under Section 249(a) of the BNS Act and Section 19 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) .
