Imphal, June 23 2026:
ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Imphal West, today conducted a day-long training programme on "Insect Pest and Disease Management in Kharif Crops" at its office.
The technical session was led by Dr Kangabam Suraj Singh, Scientist (Plant Protection), who detailed major pests and diseases affecting key kharif crops, focusing on rice, maize, cucurbits, and okra.
He stressed timely intervention and demonstrated eco-friendly management practices, including seed treatment with biocontrol agents to protect seedlings, soil treatment to suppress soil-borne pathogens, and proper foliar application techniques.
Progressive farmers from the region said the training was timely, coming ahead of the kharif rice-sowing season.
They expressed confidence that adopting biocontrol methods would safeguard nurseries and boost productivity this season.
The programme concluded with distribution of biocontrol agents to all participants.
