Imphal, April 23 2026:
The Manipur Manoharshai Sabha observed the 9th death anniversary of late Guru G Bagendro Sharma today at the Shri Nitainanda Mahaprabhu Mandop in Uripok Tourangbam Leikai.
The event commenced with a floral tribute to the late Gum's portrait.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Ranjit Adhikari, former Principal of the Government Dance College, highlighted the deep historical roots of Manoharshai.
He noted that this musical tradition, closely intertwined with Manipuri history, was introduced to the region during the reign of Chandrakriti Maharaj.
He expressed concern that although Manoharshai was once immensely popular among the masses, the number of gums currently preserving this art form is dwindling, with the late Guru Bagendro being one of its stalwarts.
The observance was attended by Yumnam Mangi, senior member of Manipur Manoharshai Sabha and visiting gum at MUC; and Dr Longjam Suranjoy Singh, former Director of Imphal Urban Cooperative Bank (IUC), as the president & guest of honour respectively.
The programme concluded with kirtan performances by Ute students of the late Guru .
