Imphal, December 22 2025:
The Imphal-Saikul road stretch will be shut indefinitely from December 24 midnight, Imphal Saikul Road Joint Development Committee (ISRJDC) has announced.
Speaking to media persons today at Pangei Yangdong Youths Development Association (PYYDA) office in Pangei, ISRJDC convenor Tonjam Somorjit informed that the decision to shut the vital road was taken due to persistent failure of the Government and its department concerned to repair the dilapidated road.
He said that the road stretch will be shut indefinitely from the midnight of December 24 until proper repair works of the road begins.
He asserted that the Imphal-Saikul road has been neglected for long by the Government and the Public Works Department despite repeated appeals from the public to properly repair it.
"On November 22, a memorandum was also submitted to the Governor highlighting the deplorable condition of the road and urging him to initiate repair works", said Somorjit while adding the ISRIDC also staged a protest, joined by affected residents, students and passenger service workers after the Governor failed to meet their deadline for Imphal-Saikul road repair work.
He also highlighted that the Imphal-Saikul Road has become very dangerous, filled with numerous potholes, cracks, and hazardous debris, posing serious risks to commuters.
Seeking public support, Somorjit announced that the road stretch will remain closed until the Government and relevant Department initiate proper repair works.
