Irilbung HS students protest transfer of lone Home Science teacher

Imphal, September 22 2026: Students of Irilbung High School under ZEO Zone-II, Imphal East, staged a protest today against the transfer of the school's lone Home Science teacher.

They demanded that the transfer order be cancelled within three days, failing which they will boycott classes.

A student who took part in the protest said Class X Pre-Board examinations are scheduled in the first week of November.

At such a crucial juncture, Home Science teacher Sarda Ningthoujam was transferred to Heirok Higher Secondary School on September 17.Terming the order unreasonable, she said the transfer has left students unable to complete the syllabus.

It would have been understandable had the Education Department transferred teachers from schools with surplus staff, she added.

The students warned they will launch a class boycott if the Department fails to revoke the order within the deadline.

They also said the school currently has no teacher for Chemistry, Thang-Ta and Manipuri.

While teachers sent on utilisation basis�are taking classes for some subjects, Thang-Ta is being taught by a privately engaged teacher.

Instead of addressing the acute teacher shortage, transferring the only Home Science teacher amounts to an attempt to shut down the school rather than develop it, the students lamented.

A Government school cannot be developed merely by chanting the slogan "School Fagathansi', they said, urging the authorities to address the hardships faced by students and teachers and improve infrastructure.
