More power to cops

Imphal, April 22 2026:
The State Government has granted additional powers, including the authority to arrest and conduct searches to officers of the civil and armed police, not below the rank of Head Constable or Havildar, for the effective implementation of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967 .
A notification in this regard was issued by Joint Secretary (Home) Dr Mayengbam Veto Singh today.
The order stated that Section 43 A of the UA(P)A empowers designated authority officers by order of the Central or State Government to arrest individuals or search premises when they have reason to believe an offence under the Act has been committed or is about to be committed.
