Imphal, June 20 2026:
The Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur, organised a one-day awareness programme on "Promoting Digital Safety, Privacy and Cyber Security Awareness among Adolescent Girls in Manipur" at the auditorium of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal.
Social Welfare Director Sheikh Abdul Hakim, Joint Director (WCD) Binobala Nongmeikapam, and CDPO-cum-State Nodal Officer, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Yumnam Surjyajeevan attended as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Sheikh Abdul Hakim said understanding digital safety, privacy, and cyber security is vital for adolescent girls.
He noted that at higher education levels, fewer girls than boys continue studies, stressing the need to bridge this gap so girls and boys advance equally.
Highlighting the benefits of the digital space, he urged girls to use it to gain knowledge and pursue their aspirations, whether to become doctors, engineers, or civil servants.
He cautioned that many girls drop out after setbacks or discouragement and called on them to stay resilient.
"Absorb these awareness lessons and work steadily toward your chosen path", he said, adding that digital literacy can empower girls to overcome barriers and achieve their goals.
