State preparing to open a dental college at JNIMS: Phungzathang

Health and Family Welfare Minister Phungzathang Tonsing has said that the State Government is preparing to establish a dental college at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science (JNIMS), Porompat.
He was speaking as Chief Guest of the 25th foundation day of Indian Dental College, Manipur State Branch held at Hotel Imphal here today.
Phungzathang further said that RIMS Dental College is the only dental college in the State.
The Government's plan to establish another dental college at JNIMS would surely be beneficial to the people.
There should be enough number of dentists in the State to provide quality service in oral health and hygiene, the Health Minister noted.
Director of Family Welfare Services Dr Okram Ibomcha pointed out that the number of dentists in the State is a little more than 200.The ratio of the existing number of dentists to the State' population is somewhere around 1: 12000.In order to improve the people's oral health and hygiene, the State should be able to produce more number of dentists by establishing a dental college.
The foundation day was also attended by Director of JNIMS Prof Mutum Shyamo and members of IDA, Manipur State Branch Prof M Angou, Dr Kh Dev and others.
