Orientation on 'Disability Rights' held for Anganwadi, ASHA workers

The Relief Centre for the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons, Manipur organised an orientation programme for Anganwadi and ASHA workers on the rights of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) and Government welfare schemes at Khangempalli Nambul Mapal Development Organisation, Imphal on Sunday.
District Social Welfare Officer, Angom Tamphasana Chanu; Advocate Th Premlata, Assistant Director, Human Rights Law Network; Programme Director, P Chandan Singh; Relief Centre for the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons president, P Gopendro Singh; and Chonsin Koireng, former Member of Manipur Commission for Women attended the programme.
In his welcome address, P Gopendro Singh stressed coordinated community support and inclusive services to ensure social inclusion of PwDs.
Angom Tamphasana Chanu highlighted the role of grassroots workers in early identification and timely intervention for PwDs, saying it can significantly improve their quality of life and access to opportunities.
Advocate Th Premlata spoke on disability welfare schemes, rights, and social security benefits.
She explained the importance of UDID (Unique Disability ID) registration for availing education, reservation, employment and welfare benefits.
She also covered employment benefits for labour card holders who acquire disabilities, and educational assistance from nursery to higher education.
Resource persons highlighted, educational assistance schemes that extend financial aid to students with disabilities, covering all levels from nursery to graduation and professional courses.
The discussion also included an overview of major Government schemes like Atal Pension Yojana, Janani Suraksha Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, and benefits provided under the National Food Security Act.
The programme aimed to equip Anganwadi and ASHA workers to better support PwDs at the community level.
