Imphal, November 17 2024:
Apart from believing in democratic agitation and strengthening democratic forms of agitation, COCOMI has no moral right to judge movement launched by the irate people, stated COCOMI spokesperson Khuraijam Athouba.
Addressing media persons on the second day of Indefinite sit-in-protest at Khwairamband Keithel spearheaded by COCOMI and women vendors of three Ima Keithel of Khwairamband, Khuraijam Athouba said the ongoing agitation at the historic Ima market will continue until achieving people's demands but people need to collectively support the agitation.
In his reply to a query, Athouba noted that different forms of agitations are being launched by different organisations and irate people in the wake of the brutal killing of women and children by Kuki militants in Jiribam.
It was due to dissatisfaction that people are demanding resignation of MLAs and attacking houses of some ministers and MLAs.
However, COCOMI believes in democratic agitations and strengthening democratic forms of agitation and hence the committee has no moral right to decide right or wrong of people's agitation, violent or non-violent, Athouba said.
According to COCOMI spokesperson, everything is known about more than 18 months of aggression on the people of Manipur but both the state government and the Government of India take up no action to stop the aggression.
Instead of finding solution, both governments continue to take up contradictory steps which indirectly support land grabbing campaign of Kuki narco-terrorists and also took time to seemingly justify demands of Kuki narco-terrorists.
However, people fully understood such tactics, he added.
To another query, Athouba said the time given to MLAs to take a collective decision on resolving the crisis and place the same to the Government of India is being awaited.
If the MLAs fail to take a collective decision during the stipulated time, then the committee will discuss further course of action in consultation with the people, he added.
COCOMl has nothing to do with the demand for investigation into the Jiribam incident by the NIA, he said, adding that it has been confirmed that 10 of the militants who targeted women and children in Jiribam but killed by central forces in retaliation were from Churachandpur.
The claim by Kuki groups through the social media that those killed were village volunteers has only exposed lies of Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists.
Further claiming that those killed by central forces belonged to militants under SoO signed by India since 2008, he maintained that in view of their heinous nature and demonising character, COCOMl had long been stating that there is no reason for the Government of India to continue holding talks with SoO groups.
Athouba contended that SoO militants are involved in all the crimes including killing of children since May 3, 2023 .
He further said that all the Kuki MLAs have surrendered everything to SoO umbrella groups KNO and UPF on separate administration demand and there is no reason for the Government of India to continue holding talk with SoO groups.
Accordingly, both the state and the Centre must take immediate steps to end SoO and launch military crackdown to uproot SoO militants from Manipur.
If the Government of India fails to dismantle SoO camps and start military crackdown against SoO militants, India's nexus with Kuki terrorists will be exposed to the global people and India would be held accountable for whatever crime the Kuki narco-terrorists commit in Manipur, Athouba said.
Meanwhile, he appealed globally known international and national awardees, prominent personalities and academicians to come at the protest venue for discussion on further course of action and activities in view of the prevailing situation.
