Kangpokpi, March 17 2026:
In a powerful example of responsive and humane administration, Shokhongam Baite, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Kangpokpi District, has earned heartfelt appreciation from the people of Maohing Village for his timely intervention in support of local farmers.
At a time when small and marginal farmers continue to grapple with financial constraints and uncertain agricultural conditions, Baite contributed Rs 30,000 towards potato seed cultivation, the assistance, though modest in amount, carries immense significance for the agrarian community of Maohing, where livelihoods are deeply rooted in seasonal farming.
Located a few kilometres away from the Kangpokpi District Headquarters, Maohing village is widely known for its organic and high-quality potato production since time immemorial.
Notably, it is the only village in the district that celebrates a Potato Festival annually, reflecting the central role of potato cultivation in the village's economy, identity, and cultural life.
The village authority described the gesture as "a beacon of hope and a testament to people-first governance," underscoring how such direct support can transform intent into impact on the ground.
Farmers in the village noted that the contribution will not only help kickstart the potato cultivation cycle but also restore confidence among cultivators striving to sustain their livelihoods amid mounting challenges.
Chief of Maohing village, Letkhosei Haokip, expressed profound gratitude on behalf of the entire village, stating that the ADC's intervention reflects rare sensitivity and commitment towards grassroots development.
