Imphal, October 16 2010: Following Bharat Petroleum's decision to raise its pump price of petroleum by 70 paise, or 2%, a litre from Friday midnight, the price of the same in Imphal will also be hiked by 32 paise with immediate effect, according to an official source from the Indian Oil Corporation, Imphal.

However, prices of other petroleum products, like diesel, and kerosene will remained unchanged, the source added.

As per the latest revised price, a litre of petrol which earlier cost Rs 51.17 will be Rs 51.49 in Imphal.

The price will be Rs 51.50 and Rs 51.78 in Churachandpur and Jiribam.

Agency reports said that Indian Oil Corporation, the biggest fuel retailer announced that petrol price will be raised effective from midnight of today.

The Hindustan Petroleum will follow suit after that.

After the increase, unbranded petrol will cost approximately Rs 52.53 a litre, in Delhi, Rs 56.39 in Kolkata, Rs 56.95 in Mumbai and Rs 57.01 in Chennai.

Indian Oil's fuel is expected to cost 2-3 paise more as its revision will be marginally higher.

There could also be differences of a few paise due to incremental impact of local taxes.

The latest price revision comes less than a month after the last increase.

The three state retailers had raised prices by 27 paise a litre on September 20 .

That was the first time prices were upped after deregulation.

The companies are staggering their revisions as a strategy to guard against complaint of cartelization.

The companies have come under the Competition Commission's scrutiny following complaints from private refiner-marketers.

Meanwhile, Imphal east district police today seized 150 litre of petrol, 100 litre each of diesel and kerosene in a drive against illegal sale of petroleum products which started in the district from today.

Police conducted the drive as per an order issued by the commissioner of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution on October 14 banning unauthorized storing and selling of these items, officials said.

The Imphal east police conducted the drive at Khurai Lamlong Bazar, Wangkhei, Kongba, etc.

and apart from seizing of 150 litre of petrol, 100 litre each of diesels from black marketeers, police also seized containers and wares used in selling the items.

The drive will continue further in the days to come, police said.
