Achieving demand needs synergy among different groups: UKLF

Imphal, September 16 2015: United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) has conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the "nine martyrs" who have sacrificed their lives in Churachandpur during the mass agitation against the passing of three bills by the Manipur Legislative Assembly.

UKLF Information and Publicity secretary MP HAOKIP in a statement noted that the outfit prays that the Almighty would console the bereave families of the martyrs.

"It is our sincere hope and prayer that the martyrs' blood will not go in vain," it said.

UKLF expressed its solidarity with the united struggle of the hill people in general and that of the people of Churachandpur in particular.

In connection with the present turmoil in the hill districts inhabited by Kuki communities, UKLF suggested that instead of straightforwardly demanding resignation of the MLAs within Kuki community, it would be better if the general public and JAC work together with them (MLAs) so that they could together get more synergy which may help in achieving their demands.

In case the MLAs resigned, who would represent the general public and advocate on behalf of them in the assembly.

So in this regard, all the stakeholders need to think twice for the good of all, it further suggested.

Initially, the theme of the mass protest was "three bills" but now the issue of "separate administration" has popped up which puts observers in a state of confusion.

So in this regard, the JAC and its constituents need to put their heads together and make things very clear to the people regarding its agenda and demands like revoking the three bills or geo-political boundary of the proposed separate administration or which of the areas/districts of the present State of Manipur inhabited by Kuki communities would be included or left out in its map because such a rare united struggle of the Kuki public is too precious to let it go in vain.

"It's good if the JAC sets up its sub-branches in other districts inhabited by Kuki communities such as Sadar Hills, Chandel, Ukhrul and Tamenglong, apart from Churachandpur and keep in mind the pulse of the people on the core demands, UKLF added.

The JAC also may chalk out plans to put mortal remains of the martyrs to rest and respond to State Government's invitation for talks to bring a solution.

Government of Manipur too should reciprocate to genuine demands of the hill people particularly the Kuki community so as to put the State in good shape.

The UPF and KNO have mutually agreed to pursue a common political goal as per the September 13 joint meeting, the outfit said.

It added, "This is the proper time for the general public, JAC and all the stakeholders to extend maximum cooperation and work together to realise our long cherished political aspiration," it added.
