Symposium explores trends of modern Manipuri poetry beyond State

Thoubal, December 15 2025: A one-day symposium on "Trends of Modem Manipuri Poetry Beyond Manipur" was held on Sunday at Nazrul Kalakshetra Sahitya Akademi Hall, Agartala, Tripura.

The event was organised by the Sahitya Akademi in collaboration with Manipuri Literary and Cultural Forum, Tripura.

The symposium commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, and was attended by noted writer RK Tarunjit Singh as functional president; and Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Tripura, president L Birmangal; and Senior Poet Aheibam Budha Chandra as guests of honour.

Other distinguished dignitaries present included North East Centre for Oral Literature (NECOL), Sahitya Akademi, Director Nirmal Das; and Manipuri Language Board member Khoisnam Birola.

The academic deliberations were held in two sessions.

The first session, chaired by Mayengbam Nilmani, featured paper presentations by Aheibam Rabindra Kumar, Anuradha Nongmaithem and L Mina Devi.

The second session was chaired by W Birmangal, during which Sorokkhaibam Gambhini Singha, K Dhirendra Singha and M Pradyut Singha presented their papers.
