Shyam Sharma to be jury member at 39th IFFI

Imphal, November 15 2008: RENOWNED FILM Director of Manipur Aribam Shyam Sharma will be among the international jury members for the Shorts Films competition section at the 39th edition of International Film Festival of India (IFFI).

The 1st edition of the Short Film Center will take place in Goa coinciding the International Film Festival of India between 23rd November to 1st December, 2008.The Short Film Center is a business platform being created at the International Film Festival of India, Goa for the first time.

In an effort to bring the short film makers, buyers, festival organizers and funding agencies on one single platform, Short Film Center is being initiated.

The Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), which is the nodal agency for organising this annual film festival, claims this is the first time in the history of Indian film festivals, that short films have been given a holistic thrust, backed by a professional business model.

Organiser had received 325 entries from all over the world, to participate in the Short Film Centre.

Amongst these films they selected 20 films in International competition section and 6 films in environment section.

Harshavardhan G.Kulkarni's Lost And Found , Geetika Narang's Good Night, Piyaly Productions, Kolkata;s Pather Panchali-A Living Resonance, Subhadro Chowdhury's You and Me, Salil Jason Fernandez's The Mole, Sunita Thakur's The Godless Justice, Karan Narvekar's Shane Soares and Geetha J.'s Inside (Akam) selected in this short film International competition section.

Hari S.Upreti's Ice factor, Babu Kambrath's The story of Midland hill selected in the International competition section in environmental issues.

The maximums duration of all films will be 30 minutes.

10 Video terminals will be set up at the Short Film Center which will be linked to a server and all the films submitted for Short Film Center will be available on each terminal.

Each video terminal will have one screen, Two chairs and Two headsets.

Every Short Film Center delegate will obtain a password to view all the films available at the video library the video terminal.

Filmmaker who would like to promote his film to a prospective buyer can do so by logging in into the Video terminal.

Selection as a jury member in International Film Festivals is not new for Aribam Shyam Sharma.

He were jury chairman for non-features film section of Indian panorama in 36th edition of International film festival India 2005 held in Goa.

He was also jury chairman in national Film Festival .

Reacting the selection as jury member for International Film Festival Shyam Sharma Says, " It will be a great pleasure for me, because this selection will spaced a platform for the coming up young film makers of Manipur." He will leave Imphal 21st of this month for Goa.
