NRC Manipur observes 31st Foundation Day

Imphal, September 15 2026: The National Research Centre (NRC), Manipur observed its 31st Foundation Day today at its centre at Canchipur.

The function was held on the theme "Impact of PreStatehood Legislation in Contemporary Manipur" with Prof N Rajmuhon, former Vice Chancellor, DM University, Imphal as chief guest and Thongam Ajit, president, NRC Manipur as president.

Dr Sapam Dilip, Assistant Professor, Law Department, Manipur University and Dr Nameirakpam Brajakanta, Assistant Professor, Law Department, Dhanamanjuri University attended as resource persons.

Speaking on the occasion, Thongam Ajit said NRC was established with the firm belief that society can be protected only when youth study diligently.

He said every year the Foundation Day is observed on a theme related to contemporary issues, conflicts and situations of the State.

He said the legislations and laws imposed by the Government of India during the period from Manipur's merger with India in 1949 till attainment of statehood in 1972 are still haunting the people.

While India may have thought of integration, the idea of disintegration has deepened, creating divisions between hill and valley brethren, which is why this year's theme was chosen, he said.

He appealed not to try to gain political mileage in the name of resolving the present conflict and to give time to understand the root cause.

Society is in a state of disorder and needs introspection as a whole, he said, adding that people should stop venting unpleasant feelings on social media and that society has to be protected and built by ourselves.
