Manipuri 'coats' launched at 'Potential of North East 2024'

Imphal, September 13 2024:
The "Potential of North East 2024", an event organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), a non-governmental/profit organisation dedicated to industrial development, commenced from Friday in Delhi, featuring three coats made from three distinctive Manipuri fabrics.
The two-day event was inaugurated with Assam Lok Sabha MP Jyoti Basumatari, PHDCCI deputy secretary general Dr Jatinder Singh and resident director Bibhu-tti Dutta as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
As part of the event, three coats, each crafted from traditional Manipuri textiles namely Leirum, Saphi-Lanphi and Naga shawl were launched on the occasion.
These creations were envisioned by North East Women Entrepreneurs' Association president Kangbam Bijaya Chanu, and designed by Basanta Lukram of Basan LK Enterprises.
The coats have been submitted for copyright protection.
Speaking at the launch event, Kangbam Bijaya informed that the products crafted from traditional Manipuri fabrics were developed with the primary goal of showcasing indigenous textiles to a global audience and promoting entrepreneurship among women.
She also provided an overview of the history and evolution of the three traditional fabrics used in the designs.
