Imphal, May 13 2024:
Yaingangpokpi village chairman Laimayum Abhiram has strongly condemned the huge extortion demands against Meetei vendors in Yaingangpokpi Bazar amidst the prevailing unrest situation in the state.
Speaking at a joint press meet held with Yaingangpokpi Village Committee, Meira Paibi, Bazar Board and Club at Manipur Press Club on Monday, Abhiram informed that the yearlong conflict orchestrated by the Kuki narco-terrorists has left the people in desperate conditions.
He continued that as Yaingangpokpi falls under the red zone, the locals are unable to carry out any work or farm.
Amid this, some groups have served huge monetary demands to Meetei shops in the area, which is highly condemnable.
He suggested to all concerned to stay in the red zone for a few days and understand how the people in the area are faring.
One Nepram Somola of Yaingangpokpi Bazar also spoke at the press meet, stating that the residents of the Meetei village in the area have spent countless sleepless nights and days without work since the conflict broke out on May 3 last year.
On top of this, the shops in Yaingangpokpi Bazar are barely making any ends meet.
Despite these difficulties, some Meira Paibi had come together to pool Rs 10 every Sunday to take care of the meals for village volunteers.
As such, she strongly condemned the monetary demand on the Meetei shops.
She continued that a nearby village of 15 households had been burned down by Kuki militants during the conflict, forcing the residents to stay in relief camps.
Apart from these, the livestock have also been killed and all farming activities halted.
Thus, she urged the members of the organisation/group to make their demands clear to the village authorities.
