WAMA to organise Manipuri poetry competition on Language Day

Imphal, July 12 2026: Wakhallon Mannaba Apunba (WAMA) will organise a Manipuri poetry competition on August 20, observed as Manipur Language Day, on the theme "Hingkisi Eikhoigi Ireipakki Damak" .

Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club, WAMA president Moirangthem Naokhamba said Manipur Language Day is observed every year on August 20 to commemorate the inclusion of Manipuri in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution.

As part of the observance, WAMA is inviting poets to submit original Manipuri poems related to the theme.

Poems of 20 to 30 lines, written in Manipuri language and free from plagiarism, should be submitted by August 5 .

Entries can be sent to the Pandam evening newspaper's office at Wahengbam Leikai or to phone numbers "9856192990" and "7005380274" .

Awards will be distributed during WAMA's foundation day on September 25 .
