Kangpokpi, July 12 2024:
Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills Kangpokpi district expressed concern over the recent statements of chief minister N Biren regarding peace talks between the Kuki-Zo and Meetei communities.
The Committee denounced the CM's remarks as delusional and indicative of frustration, alleging that such statements stem from a failed agenda of community-based violence and resource exploitation.
CoTU said that Biren's tenure is marked by inflammatory rhetoric and communal incitement against the Kuki-Zo community, describing it as a betrayal of the Chief Minister's office.
They emphasised that Biren and his allies lack moral authority to broker peace with a community they openly antagonise.
"While acknowledging the necessity of peace," the Committee stated, "we reject any forced mediation by the Government of India between the Kuki-Zo and Meetei communities, who have chosen separate paths in Manipur's hills and valleys" .
They reiterated that Kuki-Zo community's commitment to peaceful coexistence with the Meetei is only as a good neighbours and nothing else.
The Committee urged the Government of India to recognise the geographical and cultural divide between the communities, emphasising their desire for peaceful cohabitation as neighbours.
