Imphal, August 11 2026:
The Joint Committee Against the Inclusion of Non-Muslim Members in the 8th Waqf Board, Manipur (JCAINMM-WB) has expressed strong resentment over the appointment of a non-Muslim member to the 8th Waqf Board, Manipur, and announced that various forms of agitation will be launched from August 16 in coordination with the Pangal community.
Addressing a press conference today at Hafiz Hatta, JCAINMM-WB chairman MV Ataur Rahman said it has been the tradition that only Pangal (Muslims) serve as members of the Waqf Board, Manipur.
He said the inclusion of a non-Muslim member violates this practice.
Rahman said Ulama, CSOs and student organisations of the State had earlier held a meeting and submitted demands to the Government with a deadline, seeking a solution.
However, no response has been received from the Government side so far.
He added that representatives of Ulama, student bodies and CSOs also met the Chairman of the Waqf Board, Manipur on August 9, but did not get any positive response.
Stating that the lack of response from the Government has compelled them to act, Rahman said the committee, along with the Pangal people of Manipur, will launch different forms of agitation starting August 16 .
