AR seizes 68 tonnes of Areca Nuts

Imphal, April 11 2025: Acting on specific input regarding illegal transportation of Areca Nuts on NH-37, the Assam Rifles and New Keithelmanbi Police jointly setup a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) at general area Haibung in Kangpokpi district of Manipur and seized approximately 68 tonnes of ArecaNuts.

During the operation, the joint team intercepted two trucks (Nagaland registration number) carrying approximately 68 tonnes of Areca Nuts.

On thorough checking, the consignment was found being transported without valid documents, including mandatory Transit Permits from the Forest Department, said the IGAR (South) in a release.

The seized consignment along with both vehicles was handed over to New Keithelmanbi Forest Beat, Kangpokpi Forest Division for farther legal action and investigation, said the IGAR (S) .
