MU launches refresher course on 'Physical Education, Sports Sciences and Yoga'

Imphal, August 10 2026:
Manipur University on Monday inaugurated a two-week Refresher Course on "Advances in Physical Education, Sports Sciences, and Yoga" at its campus.
The course is being organised by the UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (UGC-MMTTC), Manipur University from August 10 to 22.Altogether 113 participants from 18 States are taking part.
Addressing the inaugural function as chief guest, Vice-Chancellor (In-Charge) Prof RK Hemakumar Singh said Physical Education, Sports Sciences and Yoga have transformed into multidisciplinary, scientific and evidence-based fields linked with exercise physiology, biomechanics, sports psychology, nutrition, sports medicine, strength and conditioning, data analytics and emerging technologies.
He said refresher courses provide a platform to update knowledge, exchange experiences and strengthen research skills.
"The true success of a Refresher Course is not measured merely by the certificate received, but by how effectively the knowledge, skills, and ideas gained are translated into teaching, research, training, and professional practice", he said.
Prof Hemakumar also stressed the role of these disciplines in promoting health, fitness, sporting excellence, mental well-being and holistic development.
Course Coordinator Prof Laishram Santosh Singh said the wide participation will enable exchange of knowledge across academic environments.
Director, UGC-MMTTC MU Prof Rajkumar Bhubon Singh, who presided over the function, highlighted the importance of such courses in light of NEP 2020 and its focus on quality teaching, equity, technology-enabled education and multidisciplinary learning.
The opening day featured four technical sessions- Dr Ankita Jain, Hyderabad on "Sports Mental Training for Athletes", Prof Bhuwan Chandra Kapri, Banaras Hindu University on "Research Methodology: Foundation and Framework", Prof Nishan Singh Deol, Punjabi University on "AI Transforming Sports" and T Inaobi Singh, Manipur University on "Physical Education in the Era of NEP 2020" .
Dr Y Santikumar Singh delivered the welcome address and Dr N Nilkamal Singh proposed the vote of thanks.
