CM stresses proper guidance of potential youth

Imphal, May 10 2022: Chief minister N Biren Singh inaugurated a Start-Up Incubation Centre at DM College of Commerce, Dhanamanjuri University on Tuesday.

The incubation centre will be operated with the support and funding of the Planning Department.

Speaking on the occasion, N Biren appreciated the discipline and hospitality shown by students of the University on his arrival.

While recalling that Start-Up India was launched in 2016 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said that the said scheme became operational in the state only after the formation of his government in 2017 .

Maintaining that youth of Manipur have the talents in diverse fields and are hard-working by nature, he also noted that lack of discipline, professionalism and ethics among the people are some factors for hindering growth and development of the state and creating issues even in governance.

As such, he stressed the need for proper guidance of the youth in the right direction to make them job providers instead of becoming job seekers.

Biren also stated that the state government has been taking up certain steps to make educational institutions systematic and organised by appointing regular Vice Chancellor of Universities.

Making institutions and offices work systematically would help in smooth functioning and progress of society, he added.

The chief minister continued that many entrepreneurs have come up with production of wide ranges of items like strawberry, poultry, fish, etc., thereby helping the state to lessen the dependence on imported items and marching towards the goal of self-reliance in many sectors.

He also conceded that support of the public is imperative in any development work carried out by the government and called upon all concerned to promote unity among the various communities.

Biren reiterated that bringing emotional attachment and working collectively are the only means for development of the state.

In his address, education minister Thounaojam Basanta Singh stated that chief minister N Biren is leading the state towards the path of development through his emphasis on introducing innovative schemes for the welfare of the people.

He also stated that youth of the state are inherently talented but they need proper guidance and utilisation of their youthful energy in the right direction.

The Start-Up Incubation Centre would provide basic training and help in materialising their innovative ideas, he added.

Delivering the keynote address, DM University vice-chancellor Prof N Ra-jmuhon Singh stated that the incubation centres has been set up as an integral part of the Start Up scheme to facilitate extension of requisite infrastructure, mentorship, assist in obtaining financial support and to nurture and support innovations of Start Ups in sync with the ideals of the National Education Policy 2020 to provide skill development, entrepreneurship and promote technology incubation, he added.

The Vice-Chancellor also explained that the incubation centres is aimed at enriching the Start Ups with all business related issues and opportunities, thereby laying the foundation for the young entrepreneurs and helping them compete at the global level.

He further expressed confidence that incubation centres would help in mitigating the unemployment problem in Manipur.

It may be mentioned that in the first phase, the incubation centre at DM University will conduct a three months' incubation training programme for 35 select participants.

Manipur Technical University (MTU) vice chancellor Dr Bhabeswar Tongbram, DM University registrar Dr Nivedita Lairenlakpam, MTU registrar Ng Bhogendra Meitei, Planning Department director N Kulkarani Devi, principals of Colleges under DM University, officials, faculty members and students also attended the programme among others.
