Imphal, March 10 2026:
The Tribal Youth Council Manipur (TYCM), Council Headquarters has resolved to intensify democratic agitation on March 24 in response to the Government's failure address the ultimatum regarding the demand for commencement of functioning of the Tribal Girls' Hostel at Old Lambulane, Imphal.
According to a press note, the decision was taken during the meeting of the Central Executive Council (CEC) held on March 9 .
The ultimatum was served on January 28, 2025 .
As per TYCM, the Government of Manipur has shown no concern for the financial and logistical struggles of tribal girl students arid their parents.
These students from far-flung and remote areas are currently staying in rented houses in Imphal and are compelled to bear the burden of paying rent, it said.
If the hostel does not become functional, the very purpose of establishing the hostel will become meaningless and detrimental to the educational prospects and careers of tribal girl students in Manipur, it added.
The TYCM will decide the mode of agitation at a later stage ahead of intensifying the agitation.
