He informed that a grazing ground spanning 30 acres had been allocated at Lamphelpat for the ponies, and additional grazing grounds had also been developed, including one at Pangei.
The CM acknowledged the efforts of the Assam Rifles and the Army in this regard, noting that they had also taken up initiatives such as the establishment of their own polo teams.
He appreciated their role in organising polo tournaments, stating that such efforts contribute significantly to the promotion of polo while simultaneously aiding in the conservation of the Manipuri pony.
He further underscored the need to continue organising such tournaments annually to sustain and promote the indigenous sport.
Biren also mentioned that the government had introduced an indigenous polo tournament, the Chief Minister's Sagol Kangjei Championship, with the objective of promoting Sagol Kangjei, the traditional form of polo played in Manipur.
Additionally, he stated that the government had formed a pony squad within the state police and would make necessary arrangements for police stations in valley districts to adopt 50 to 100 ponies under this initiative.
He also sought public support and cooperation in the conservation of the Manipuri pony, stressing its cultural and historical significance.
Addressing the prevailing crisis in the state, the CM stated that the state government is making all possible efforts to restore peace and to ensure that people live together harmoniously as before.
As part of the closing ceremony, Biren honoured veteran polo players for their contributions to the sport.
