Imphal, June 07 2026:
World Environment Day 2026 was marked in Imphal today with tree plantation and awareness programmes by different organisations.
Manipur Baptist Convention Centre Church observed Green Sunday at MBC Centre Church, Chingmeirong.
Various saplings were distributed to Church members, and children were urged not to cut trees.
Pastor Joukamang Daimai said environmental protection must begin with individual action.
Noting that humanity cannot survive without trees, he added that deforestation severely affects birds.
He appealed to all to nurture the planted saplings, stressing that planting alone is not enough.
Separately, Bharat Swabhiman (Trust) and Patanjali Yog Samiti, Imphal West, conducted a mega plantation drive at Ningombam Heiribok Ching.
Around 60 yoga lovers, including teachers, practitioners, and young players from different centres, participated.
Led by rajya prabhari Ksh Gopendra Singh and Imphal West prabharis, the group planted about 150 indigenous and medicinal saplings provided by the Central Forest Division, Mantripukhri.
The drive aimed to restore the ecosystem, combat climate change, and check soil erosion.
The Ningombam Patanjali Yoga Centre will water and monitor the saplings to ensure
their survival.
