MU-MMTTC launches programme on advanced research methodology

The UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), Manipur University in collaboration with the Department of Biotechnology, Manipur University inaugurated a six-day interdisciplinary short-term programme on "Advanced Research Methodology in Life Sciences" at the Department of Biotechnology on Monday.
The programme aims to strengthen research capabilities of teachers through exposure to emerging techniques, advanced methodologies and hands-on training.
The inaugural function began with a welcome address by Prof K Sanatombi, Head, Department of Biotechnology.
Prof N Mohilal Meitei, Dean, School of Life Sciences, and Prof L Shanjukumar Singh, Dean, School of Agricultural Sciences addressed the gathering, while Director of UGC-MMTTC Prof RK Bhubhon Singh spoke on the objectives.
Prof Reena Haobam proposed the vote of thanks.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Bhubhon Singh said the programme is organised to strengthen research capabilities of college and university teachers at a time when new techniques are rapidly emerging in biotechnology and life sciences.
He said the programme combines lectures with hands-on training and demonstrations, providing practical exposure to research techniques and sophisticated instruments available in the University.
He said participation has been restricted to 25 to facilitate meaningful practical engagement The objective is not only to train participants but to enable them to carry the knowledge back to their institutions and share with students and colleagues.
Participants are drawn from TS Paul Manipur Women's College, DM College of Science, S Kula Women's College, GP Women's College, Thambal Marik College, Pravabati College, Lilong Haoreibi College, Kamakhya Pemton College, Pettigrew College and others.
In the academic session, Prof K Sanatombi spoke on nanotechnology and application of nanoparticles in plant tissue culture, highlighting their use in micropropagation, production of secondary metabolites and precision plant technology.
