Forest Dept holds workshop on 'MSP Revision for Minor Forest Produce'

Imphal, August 05 2026: The Forest Department, Government of Manipur organised a one-day workshop on "Price Revision of Existing Minor Forest Produce (MFPs) and Addition of New MFPs under MSP for MFP Scheme" today at Sanjenthong.

The workshop was attended by Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & HoFF Anurag Bajpai; Additional PCCF Soreiphy Vashum; Dr Naba Kumar Goswami, Associate Director, TERI Guwahati; and Neha Sharma, Fellow Associate, TERI New Delhi.

Participants included representatives from TCI, Agriculture, Horticulture, TA & Hills, RD&PR, CAF&PD, MU, CAU, Manipur Chamber of Commerce & Industry, All Manipur Entrepreneurs' Association, North East Women Entrepreneurs Association, DFOs and VDVK members.

Addressing the gathering, Anurag Bajpai said forest produce forms the backbone of livelihoods for tribal and forest-dependent communities.

He noted that Manipur is a forest-based economy and that besides timber, MFPs such as bamboo, essential oil, medicinal and aromatic plants, NTFPs and wild herbs can drive rural economic growth, employment and sustainable development.

Gaithaolu Thaimei, CCF/T-II and State Nodal Officer, TRIFED, said the Forest Department is the nodal agency for Van Dhan Yojana and MSP for MFP.

Since 2019, 209 VDVKs, 3,171 SHGs and 62,837 beneficiaries have been covered in the State.

Dr Naba Kumar Goswami said TERI is conducting a study to revise MSPs for 87 existing MFPs, assess new MFPs for inclusion, and develop a standard methodology for future revisions.

Neha Sharma gave a presentation on Project Introduction and Methodology, overview of MSP revision study, household survey design and collection data approach.
