TKS asks 'JAC' to clarify on 'Tangkhul Katamnao Long'

Ukhrul, January 05 2013 : Taking serious exception to the allegation leveled by Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed against the murder of Laishram Ibohalbi, Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) has categorically rubbished the charges as baseless and termed the move as an attempt to tarnish the image of the oldest and respectable student organization in Manipur.

In a news report published in Nagaland's local daily on Saturday and the memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister of Manipur, the JAC has leveled allegation against "some members of Tangkhul Katamnao Long" and two persons of Hatta village of murdering Ibohalbi, a policeman from Yairibok Laishram Leikai.

Terming that if the JAC's inference of Tangkhul Katamnao Long is referred to Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong, the TKS has countered that the charges was totally baseless and an attempt to tarnish the image of the respectable apex body of Tangkhul student community which is arguably the oldest in the state.

The student organisation urged the concerned JAC to clarify whether the Tangkhul Katamnao Long is referred to the TKS.

"But as such there is no organisation by the name Tangkhul Katamnao Long in Tangkhul community," it stated.

"The TKS has already condemned the murder and assured of extending support to nab the culprit(s) involved in the killing.

How the local JAC can hurl charges without any evidences against the students," the student body asserted.

In the last 80 years of the organisational existence, the TKS stated that it has "no record of indulging in goondaism and in any anti-social activities" .

It is worthwhile to recall that Ibohalbi went missing from Finch Corner on December 29, the last day of the 72-hour blockade imposed by United Naga Council (UNC).

On that fateful day, the cop was on his way to Imphal with a Chungka villager but reportedly caught by bandh enforcers.

"The murder of Ibohalbi was very unfortunate.

But we also take strong exception to the allegation made against the student body.

The student body is very saddened by baseless allegation that has been also published in media," the TKS stated.
