Sit-in protest demands immediate release of arrested student in Heirok

Thoubal, August 04 2025: A sit-in protest was staged today at Heirok Part III Ngarouthel Laishram Leirak demanding the immediate and unconditional release of Khundongbam Suresh Singh (19), s/o Kh Binoy, a student of Thoubal College, who was arrested by police personnel on August 2 while on his way to work at a field in Heirok.

The protest was jointly organised by the local clubs and Meira Paibis of the area, demanding the immediate and unconditional release of the student.

Speaking to the media during the protest, Khundongbam Imem, mother of the arrested student, stated that her son is a 3rd semester student of Thoubal College.

She said that Suresh had left home that day at around 10.30 am to look after their field, but was allegedly apprehended by police personnel without any information and later charged with multiple offences.

She made an emotional appeal to the authorities, demanding her son's unconditional release.

During the protest, protesters displayed placards bearing messages such as "We Condemn Arrest of a Student", "What is Suresh's Fault", "Release Suresh Immediately Without Any Condition" .
