Imphal, August 04 2014: 'In order to save the society, we should pay attention towards the education system of the state and emotional integrity needs to be nurtured from the grassroots level' .

This was stated by Dr..YMani Khuman, President of AMUCO during the 17th Integrity Day observance held at MDU Hall today under the aegis of All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO).

Mani Khuman, who graced as one of the presidium members, expressed confidence that 'as there is emotional integrity among the various communities residing in Manipur, and so it would be easy to bring unity in state' .

In the midst of burning issues of the state like the ILP issue, people of all communities are required to discuss and find amicable solutions, he suggested, while appealing to all concerned to bring about a unified and dignified Manipur.

Asserting that communal sentiments would be a barrier to bring about unity in Manipur, President of Kuki Women Union Dr.Rose Mangsi Haokip pointed out the necessity of avoiding communal feelings among the residents of the state.

Delivering the keynote address, AMUCO General Secretary Gandhi recounted that massive rally undertaken by lakhs of Manipuris on 4th August in 1997 to protect the unity and integrity of the state.

Even after 16 years, there is no end to the efforts for endangering the unity and integrity of Manipur, Gandhi said and pointed out that people have realizes it is not the Naga people, but India government and NSCN(IM) that are continuously pushing for breaking the unity among the people of Manipur.

Cautioning that border of the land requires constant attention of the people, he called upon the people to treat the state's territory as their personal land.

The emerging demand for a separate state within Nagaland is due to negligence of small groups by bigger ones such as Mao, Angami and Sema, he alleged.

Charging the state government with allowing Kuki people from Myanmar to settle in the reserved forest areas within Manipur territory, AMUCO general secretary revealed that the government encourages new settlements in Khasland areas of Imphal by issuing land Pattas.

AMUCO has been endeavoring to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur as well as to bring emotional unity among the various groups of the state since 1992, Gandhi asserted.

Social scientist Dhanabir Laishram suggested that all the micro minority groups of Manipur's hill region could develop their own communities by introducing a bicameral legislative system instead of demanding the 'Alternative Arrangement' .

Dhanabir alleged that those who are opposing the proposal for demanding bicameral legislature have a hidden agenda for subjugating the smaller ethnic groups by the bigger groups.

He said if the present state of affairs is sustained for a longer period, further hostility among the various ethnic groups in the state is looming.

Speaking on the occasion, Th.Iboyaima, Chief Advisor of AMUCO, appealed to all groups residing in the state to work for solving the problems facing the people today.

Y.Maipak Chote of Chothe Tribe Union Manipur, Gaikhemmei of ZU Imphal Zone, K.Yaima Maring from Phunan Maring, Arang Jatak Chiru of Chiru Tribe Union, Advocate Sayeed Ahemad, President of Poirei Leimarol Meira paibi Apunba Lup L.Memchoubi, Atonpi Kamei of Kabui Mothers' Association and AMUCO advisor KT Rahman were also among the presidium members who attended the observance.

The observance commenced with offering of floral tributes at the Integrity Pillar at Imphal Pologround, and the participants observed a 2-minute silence at the beginning of the function at MDU Hall Imphal.
