Imphal, June 04 2024:
Despite being in the opposition, candidates of the Congress party have been able to defeat the ruling BJP nominees by significant margin due to shortcomings of the government and the dissatisfaction among the public against the BJP ministers, opined Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra.
Addressing media persons at Congress Bhawan, here, on Tuesday, Meghachandra highlighted various factors for BJP's electoral defeat, including government weaknesses and failure of its ministers and MLAs to live up to the people's expectation, while prioritising their positions over public service.
He also contended that the chief minister has failed to discharge his mandated tasks, consequently leading to insipid contribution from his council of ministers in the Lok Sabha polls.
Stating that Manipur is a state with huge human resources having the capability to compete with the mainland Indians, he said that it is due to the failure of the state and central governments to work as per the wishes of the public that people of the state began to harbour ill-will against the BJP government.
The verdict of the public in the Lok Sabha polls results of which were declared on Tuesday will also have a huge impact in the upcoming state elections.
The people of the state desire to live peacefully, governed by existing laws of the land.
However, the present government has failed to fulfil all these obligations and meet aspirations of the people, Meghachandra maintained.
The MPCC president also stated that if by any chance the government at the centre is formed by the INDIA bloc, then the BJP government in the state will also cease to exist.
Moreover, whether the present BJP government in Manipur will continue to remain in power or not will be known only after the formation of a government at the centre, he said.
The Wangkhem MLA further maintained that the state and the central governments failed to solve the crisis lingering in Manipur for more thanayear now.
Prime Minister Modi has failed to utter a single word to the people of Manipur in connection with the humanitarian crisis prevailing in the state.
This is also one of the major factors for the hatred of people towards BJP.
The government has completely failed to safeguard the life and property of the public.
Despite the presence of over 40,000 state security forces, people have been forced to take up arms for their protection and to save their motherland.
All these factors have led the people to go against the BJP and opt for Congress as could be comprehended from the election results declared on Tuesday, he said.
Meghachandra also expressed gratitude to the people of Manipur for having faith in the party and electing its candidates both in the inner and outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituencies.
As two representatives from the state will now be representing the state in the parliament, the Congress party will make sure that all the promises made to the people are fulfilled and the present crisis is solved very soon.
