Imphal, February 04 2013: Media, precisely Cartoon Channel, has its positive impact on children.

Winner of this year National Bravery Award, Master Koroungamba Kumam of Moirang Mairembam Leikai was inspired by a cartoon series on TV, Tom and Jerry, while he saved her younger sister from fire which subsequently fetched him the National award.

Kouroungamba said he imitated the brave action of 'Jerry' when he covered 'Tom' with a blanket when fire broke out in one of the Tom and Jerry cartoon series.

Likewise, fire broke out at their residence on July 11, 2011 when the two children were alone in their house.

Kouroungamba covered her sister with blanket to save her from the fire.

Kourounganba was 7 then and his sister 4 .

He was speaking to media persons today during a felicitation function organised in his honour at AISF office located at Irawat Bhawan Complex.

Kouroungamba, the youngest National Bravery Award winner among 22 children, was given a rousing felicitation after he touched down the Imphal Airport today.

He received the award from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on January 24 in Delhi.

The award carries a certificate, medal and cheque of Rs 20,000 .

The eldest son of Kumam Babuchand, a lecturer at Moirang College, and Kumam (O) Sofia, Kouroungamba is a Class IV student of New Model Public School, Moirang Khoirangbam Leikai.

During his trip to New Delhi to receive the Award, Kouroungamba was provided the opportunity to visit National Science Centre, Raj Bhavan, Fun & Food Village besides being granted audiences with the Defence Minister, Vice-President and other distinguished personalities of the country.

Speaking at the felicitation programme, Master Kouroungamba said he aimed to become either a doctor or an Army officer.

The National Bravery Award has been instituted by Indian Council for Children Welfare since 1957 .

The award has been given to children between the 6 and 16 in recognition of any life-saving act.

Winners of the award are entitled free cost of education till achieving 18 years besides being provided a quota in Medical and Engineering studies.

Since its inception, a total of 846 children including 244 girls were conferred the award so far.

Speaking at the occasion, AISF general secretary, M Suranjit said that it is a matter of pride that a child from the State has been recommended for the award each year.

He also recommended showing quality children films to children so as to influenced them in the right path.

President of AISF Comrade Sanahal also attended the function today.
