Gandhi Jayanti marked with cleanliness drives, service programmes across Manipur

Institutions, security forces and Government departments across Manipur observed Gandhi Jayanti today with extensive cleanliness drives, plantation and social service programmes, paying tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 157th birth anniversary.
NIT Manipur
National Institute of Technology (NIT) Manipur organised a Social Service and Cleanliness Drive within its campus.
Director Prof DNVL Somayajulu led the programme and administered the Gandhi Jayanti pledge.
Registrar Prof Kh Tomba Singh, faculty, officers, staff, NCC cadets and para-military personnel took part, cleaning various areas of the campus and collecting plastic waste and other litter.
Addressing the gathering, Prof Somayajulu emphasised on making cleanliness a regular practice and maintaining a neat, clean and hygienic campus.
Prof Tomba Singh said such activities strengthen collective responsibility, discipline and environmental consciousness.
The institute also paid tribute to former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Lal Bahadur Shastri, recalling his life of simplicity and honesty and his message of "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan" .
CRPF Battalions
Under the aegis of IG Manipur-Nagaland Sector, CRPF, several battalions carried out Swachhata Hi Seva activities.
86 Battalion led by Commandant Saurabh Kumar Choudhary, in collaboration with RIMS Hospital and Lamphel Police Station, conducted a cleanliness drive in and around RIMS Hospital, Imphal.
69 Battalion, Mantripukhri, led by Commandant SA Rojan Zimik, observed a mass swachhata pledge and honoured Safai Karmacharis with appreciation letters.
The battalion, in coordination with Imphal Municipal Corporation and local residents, carried out a sustained cleanliness campaign from September 17 to October 2 at Mantripukhri Pond, market areas and public parks.
A tree plantation drive under "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" was also held at C Coy premises, New Secretariat.
D/152 Battalion organised a cleanliness and tree plantation programme at Babupara, Imphal West, as part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
A/120 Battalion, under Inspector Hari Singh, conducted "Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Sath" at Thuizang village yesterday, where personnel and villagers jointly took up shramdaan to clean streets and public spaces.
Agriculture and Research Institutions
ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Lamphelpat, along with its five KVKs -Imphal West, Churachandpur, Tamenglong, Ukhrul and Chandel - observed Swachh Bharat Diwas with awareness on Swachh Seva Aankalan shramdaan, plogging, identification of Cleanliness Target Units, plantation under "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" and felicitation of Safai Mitras.
College of Agriculture, Central Agricultural University, Iroisemba, organised a social service programme at IDP relief centres at Urup and Wangjing under the theme "Swachhata Mein Sahbhag; Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat".
Led by the Dean, 90 volunteers from the college and 100 volunteers from Love Foundation Manipur distributed sports items, cleaning materials, drinking water and refreshments to 190 families comprising 624 members.
Akashvani Imphal
Staff of Akashvani Imphal, led by Head and Director (Engineering) N Nandakumar, conducted cleanliness drives at its Palace Compound office complex and Lamphel Quarters complex and planted around 200 saplings.
Similar drives were held at INA Memorial Complex, INA Headquarters and Ibudhou Thangjing Laikon at Moirang.
Regional News Unit Head K Sonikumar, Assistant Director (News) Thokchom Jogendrajit and other staff participated.
