Imphal, March 02 2026:
The Kanglei Indigenous Martial Arts and Cultural Society (KIMACS) has urged the State Government to include teachers of Thang-Ta and Manipuri Jagoi (dance) in the up-coming teacher recruitment process.
Speaking to the media today, KIMAC's secretary general RK Leninsana stated that they have received information about the Government's plan to recruit teachers before the Assembly elections.
He emphasized that if this information is accurate, individuals teaching Thang-Ta and Manipuri Jagoi should be included in the recruitment drive.
Leninsana highlighted a previous instance in 2019 where teachers of Thang-Ta and Manipuri Jagoi were excluded from a similar recruitment process, which led to significant dissatisfaction and issues.
Representations were made to the concerned Minister, Commissioner, and Director at the time, but no action was taken, he added.
He warned that if the current recruitment drive again overlooks these traditional art forms, further unwanted incidents are likely to occur.
He further reiterated the demand for designated positions for those practicing Thang-Ta and Manipuri Jagoi.
