Imphal, February 02 2026:
The Government Polytechnic College is currently unable to conduct practical classes due to shortage of laboratory and workshop staff.
The Government has been urged to appoint the necessary personnel promptly.
The issue was highlighted today during a press conference at the Manipur Press Club by Okram Yaifabi, a representative of the Government Polytechnic Student Union.
She stated that while the appointment of 21 out of 25 required guest lecturers has allowed theory classes to proceed smoothly, the absence of laboratory and workshop staff is preventing practical education.
Yaifabi further explained that during a meeting with the Manipur Governor and Union representatives on September 16 last year, several points were raised.
The appointment of the guest lecturers fulfilled one of these points, ensuring full theory classes.
However, the practical classes remain suspended, she added.
The Union has appealed to the Government to consider the students' future and take immediate steps to fill the vacant staff positions.
