Imphal, September 01 2019: While underscoring the need for establishing a united political force which represents the North East region and is capable of fighting against the unfair treatment of North East people and deprivation of their basic rights, National People's Party (NPP) leader and Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar has urged all NPP workers to propagate the party's true ideals and philosophy to the people.

He also claimed that NPP is the only political party which can boldly stand up for the cause of North East people in the Parliament besides working towards protecting the identity, cultures and other values of the region.

The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking as chief guest at the 72nd birth Anniversary of eminent politician and former Lok Sabha Speaker late Purno Agitok Sangma which was organized by NPP, Manipur Unit and its youth front at Lamyanba Shanglen today.

Saying that all the States in the North East region have many similarities in terms of cultures, food habits and value systems, Joykumar said that NPP has an immense role to play with regard to several issues of the region.

Tracing the genesis of NPP, he said that the party has a history of originating from the State of Manipur although PA Sangma groomed the party to a new height after he realized the need for establishing a strong political party in the North East region to adequately highlight the issues of the same region and present a strong voice in Parliament in combating repression of people from the North East region in the political domain of India.

NPP has been playing its role with regard to several key issues of North East as was evident in the recent CAB issue, he said and further advised all NPP workers not to be arrogant but work calmly with a firm determination under the party's ideology.

Health Minister Jayantakumar who is also a NPP MLA described PA Sangma as a far sighted political figure who eventually worked with a political aspiration for building a strong political platform for the North East in Indian Parliament.

Noting that people's voice is God's voice, he advised party workers to never ignore the concerns of the public and to work towards containing the chaos and plight of the people in the State and the North East region.

Claiming that NPP's popularity in the North East region is increasing day by day with more and more people admiring the party's ideology and efforts, the Minister said that party workers should work harder and try to make heart to heart connection with the people to take the party to a new political height so that the party wins greater number of seats in the 2022 Assembly election.

He then contended that NPP should fight against the repression and injustice meted out to the people of North East in a democratic manner.

NPP, Manipur president Thangminlien Kipgen, working president Ajang Khongsai, general secretary (organization) Kh Loken and many other NPP leaders attended the function as guests of honour.
