Leimakhong JAC calls public meet to discuss way forward

Regarding the disappearance of Laishram Ka-malbabu after he went inside the Leimakhong Army Camp, 57 Mountain Division, for construction work, the JAC formed in this regard has invited all stakeholders, including CSOs, for a public meeting at Khwairamband Keithel on Sunday at 10 am to adopt resolutions for further courses of action.
The JAC, along with local residents, staged a sit-in protest at Kanto Sabal Road leading to the Leimakhong Army Camp on Saturday, demanding the safe rescue of the missing man.
Later, a public meeting was also organised.
As the 57 Mountain Division could not locate and hand over the missing Kamalbabu to the people within the stipulated time, enraged protestors tried to storm the army campus by removing the barbed wires put up by the army.
However, the wife of missing Kamalbabu, Akoijam Ningol Laishram (o) Belarani, representatives of the JAC, and some Meira Paibi members were allowed to meet the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 57 Mountain Division.
Following a meeting with the GOC, JAC member Lourembam Anita informed the media that the GOC told them that an intensive search operation by a combined team of the army, Manipur police, and Kangpokpi SP to locate the missing Kamalbabu is ongoing in various areas.
However, the GOC could not provide a specific timeline for finding Kamalbabu and handing him over to the public.
Kamalbabu's wife, Laishram (o) Belarani, who came to search for her missing husband from Cachar, reached the protest site on Saturday and also joined the meeting with the GOC.
Belarani said that she exerted pressure on the GOC to find her husband by December 3.Meanwhile, the JAC urged the public and CSOs to attend the public meeting on Sunday at 10 am at Khwairamband Keithel to decide the future course of action regarding the disappearance of Kamalbabu.
