Delay in electing Chairman of Manipur Apex Marketing Society flayed

Imphal, August 31 2026: The All Manipur Agriculture Workers Union has alleged inordinate delay in conducting election for Chairman and Vice-Chairman of Manipur Apex Co-operative Marketing Society Ltd .

In a press release, the Union said the society, which had been functioning without election since 2022 with nominated boards, finally held election for 13 Board of Directors on March 14, 2026 following an order of the High Court.

However, despite issuance of six election notices thereafter for election of Chairman and Vice-Chairman, the election has been deferred citing lack of quorum, raising suspicion of a hidden agenda of the Registrar.

The union said the society, registered in 1956-57, has been providing agricultural inputs to farmers during Kharif and Rabi seasons and the delay is affecting the cooperative movement in Manipur.

The All Manipur Agriculture Workers Union urged the authorities concerned to intervene and ensure the election is held without further delay.
