Will not accept disintegration of Naga areas: UNC

Imphal, May 31 2023: United Naga Council (UNC) has made it clear to the Government of India that the "Nagas will not accept any disintegration of Naga areas in attempting to address any appeal or demand by any community".

In a memorandum submitted to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday, which was made available to Newmai News Network, the UNC cautioned that "breaking up Naga areas or adversely affecting the Nagas in any way will have serious Trani-tication that will provoke further senseless violence with different communities".

UNC said its representation is in pursu-ance for an enduring, inclusive and honour-able Indo-Naga political settlement based on Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015.The memorandum mentioned: "While welcoming your visit to the turbulent state of Manipur in response to the violent sit-uation that has affected all communities in the wake of the May 3 Solidarity Rally carried out by the All Tribal Students Union, Manipur (ATSIJM), we would like to first highlight briefly on the violence and pan-demonium that have engulfed the state".

UNCemphasised that the may-hem and reign of terror have spilled into the streets right under the very nose of the men in uniform.

The Naga body also stated that thousands of arms and ammuni-tion from state government ar-moury havegone into the hands of irate rioters and this has led to bloodshed, lawlessness and insanity overshadowing the rule of law, in-spite of promulgation of article 355 UNC also conveyed in the memorandum that more than 300 churches have been burnt down to ashes, looting and ar-son at the heart of the capital city, massacre of innocent lives including old people, women and children, cases of rape and molestation of women folks, dearth of life saving drugs and essential commodities in-spite of heavy security deployment de-pict the total collapse of the state machinery in thestatethat were/ was never witnessed before.

The UNC memorandum fur-ther said, ''We add to the voice of the community in the state to your good office for manag-ing the grievous situation with an iron hand for ending this madness immediately with the resources and power..." UNC also asserted that the Naga people should be con-sulted while considering any settlement to address the pre-vailing situation.

In the light of the above, the UNC maintained that the government of India must uphold the sanctity of the "historic Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015 in teller and spirit for enduring and peaceful co-existence of Indiaandthe Na-gas and toexpeditiously translate the same into a political reality" .
