Discussion programme begins at MDU hall

A 4-day discussion programme on rites & rituals from birth to death performed by people following the Sanamahi religion began today at Manipur Dramatic Union hall in Yaiskul Police Lane.
The discussion programme was organised by the Amai-Piba Apul Lup Kangleipak (APAL Kangleipak).
Speaking at the event as the chief guest, Social Welfare Minister Heikham Dingo called for collective effort to mitigate the gradual degradation of the age-old cultures and traditions.
He asserted that with time, many changes have been seen in the customs and traditions but it is important to control the changes and bring them under a system to uphold the unique characteristics and traditional values left behind by the forefathers.
Organising Committee chairman Angomcha Mainou (Ibomcha) said that the programme was organised with the aim to find ways and take a firm resolution to streamline the various rites & rituals performed by the people from birth to death.
Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board vice president, Wakhallamjingba (Vidyapati) Senjam and Moirangmayum Beigya of APAL Kangleipak also took part in the function.
Also, a technical session was held in the afternoon moderated by Dr Lourembam Surjit, Deputy Registrar, MUC.
Thoubal College, Assistant Professor, Thingujam Kumar (Amai piba), Ngangbam Ibobi (Amai piba), Naharolgi Thoudang editor Khoirom Loyalakpa and others shared their valuable insight in the session.
