Imphal, December 27 2025: The 61st birth anniversary of Guru Lata Thounaojam, renowned dancer and choreographer, was observed yesterday at the auditorium of SANCHAALI in Haobam Marak Ngangaom Leikai.

Notably, Guru Lata Thounaojam was the former director of SANCHAALI, a centre for performing arts.

The event was graced by Dr M Nara Singh, former Art & Culture Minister; S Sanatombi Singha, former Vice Chancellor, Manipur University; Padmashri Dr Elam Indra Devi, director, Meitei Traditional Dance Teaching School & Performing Center, Imphal; and renowned theatre crtic & playwright Budha Chingtham as presidium members.

The event began with the offering of floral tributes to a photograph of Late Guru Lata Thounaojam, followed by the release of a souvenir.

Dr P Birachandra Singh, Dr A Radhamanbi Devi and Dilip Aheibam gave paper presentations on the life & works of Late Guru Lata Thounaojam.

Mesmerizing cultural performances of "Nachom" and "Houro Houro" by artists of SANCHAALI were the other highlights of the event.
