Hunger Marchers' Day observed

Jiribam, August 27 2026: The 61st Hunger Marchers' Day (Chaklam Khongchat) was observed at Jiribam today.

The event at the Multi Utility Complex Hall was organised by the All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) District Committee.

AMSU representatives, Jiribam Municipal Council Executive Officer Moirangthem Surjit Singh, Jiribam Zilla Parishad ex-Adhyaksha Kh Janaki Devi, Jiri Development Organisation president E Dewan Singh and Jiri Ima Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (JIMPAL) president L Bimola Devi attended the observance.

To mark the observance, the gathering paid floral tributes to four students who were killed during a protest against artificial famine in 1965.The attendees also observed a one-minute silence as a show of respect for the four students.

Students of various schools also took out a rally.
